Fieldnotes is a dedicated digital media platform committed to shedding light on the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur. We provide regular updates on the ground developments and offer deeper insights into the causes, nature, and dynamics of the crisis. We also curate and publish special content including academic texts and visual data that highlights the historical context surrounding this moment, focusing particularly on the experience of the Zo people who have been at the receiving end of the current violence.


OUR MISSION

  • Provide accurate and credible ground reports on the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur, including its context and significance.

  • Correct the misperceptions about the causes and nature of the Manipur crisis created by the Valley-based media houses and State government functionaries.

  • Raise public awareness on Zo identity, history, and culture, and foster a sense of pride in being a Zomi.

  • Highlight the human stories behind the conflict, giving voice to those affected and sharing their experiences.

  • Encourage the development of free, independent, and courageous journalism, and empower the Zo people to start writing their truth to power.

  • Ensure that the cause of the Zo people in Manipur receive worldwide attention through proactively working with national and international media organisations.


SPREADING THE ZO PERSPECTIVE

We understand the crucial role of journalists, newsrooms, and reporters in shaping public opinion and influencing policy decisions. That is why we are committed to supporting them with timely updates and assisting in any way possible to ensure accurate and comprehensive reporting. We believe that by sharing our insights and resources, we can empower journalists to enhance their coverage of the ethnic violence in Manipur and bring the issue to global attention.
